Fighting the good fight against Seasonal Affective Disorder
Bringing STRIKING 12 to the chilly east coast: we are thrilled to be in residence at legendary Arena Stage in Washington, DC for two weeks (Dec 2-13); to return to the beautiful Portsmouth Music Hall in New Hampshire on December 5; and to continue our tradition of STRIKING 12 on New Year’s Eve in New York City (Merkin Hall at the Kaufman Center).
Here are dates and links to buy tickets:
STRIKING 12 at Arena Stage (Crystal City location): Dec 2-4, 6, 10-13
STRIKING 12 at Portsmouth Music Hall (Portsmouth, NH): Dec 5
STRIKING 12 at Merkin Hall @ Kaufman Center (New York, NY): Dec 31
Check out Val’s Arena Stage blog post!
We’ll also be celebrating the re-release of our STRIKING 12 CD on PS Classics, including for the first time a special card to allow you to download the newer songs we’ve written for STRIKING 12 since that CD was released. These download cards will be available ONLY in person at the shows until 2010…so come on down to Arena Stage, Portsmouth Music Hall or Merkin Hall to pick yours up.

The cover of our first-ever song folio
In addition, we’ll have our first-ever official published song folio, hot off the presses and courtesy of Warner/Chappell and Alfred Music! Eight songs from STRIKING 12 are included, in full beautiful old-fashioned piano/vocal sheet music style. These have just become available online as well: check ‘em out here.

Just to make sure, there’s no way to get the new Striking 12 songs before Christmas, unless we attend a show??
I’d love to add them to my existing Christmas playlist and live in Hawaii, so the East Coast is, unfortunately, a little bit too far for us…
Thanks, Groovelily!!

Yup, it’s an incentive to get butts in seats, at least for now. But since you live in hawaii, email me privately at brendan at the name of this site dot com, and let’s work something out. The rest of you in the continental US, you gotta come to a show. Or buy the reprinted album straight from psclassics.com.
So, it’s a little unclear. Does the re-release CD of Striking 12 contain the new songs on it… or is it the same CD that I already have, and just includes a card to download the newer songs?
I’m sure that there are those of us that would be willing to buy the re-released CD if we were sure that it contained the new songs on it.
All the best from Tennessee… not as far away as Hawaii, but still too far for me.

Will you be adding dates in the NYC area? Another night at Merkin, or Paper Mill or McCarter would be great perhaps in early January.
This is probably unreasonable, but if ever, in the near future, you could work in tour dates that are in Alabama or Georgia (Atlanta comes to mind) that would be neat.
Also, will you guys ever release the show of Sleeping Beauty Wakes on CD, or is it just the songs? Because right now I’m in love with it but I have no context for what’s going on.
(Same with Ernest Shackleton Loves Me)
We want very much to come back to hotlanta. Can you suggest some venues?
More soon–kid yelling, must intervene
So Brendan… you re-visited this post, but did not answer my question in post #3 above. It appears that the re-release of the Striking 12 CD does not contain the new songs on the CD itself, but after the first of the year will contain a card to download the new songs. Will you please confirm, or clarify this? When I click on the re-release link you give, it lists the exact same songs that I already have on my copy of Striking 12. There is no mention in the promotional blurb about any new songs added, or any download card included. Please clarify for me.
Thanks,
–Ed
My apologies.
The rerelease of the album includes a download card with a link to this site:
http://www.dropcards.com/striking12/content/index.php
And on the back of the card is a unique code that entitles the card holder to download four songs.
We never posted which songs or how many because we weren’t certain which or how many we would mix and upload–but now we have done so. The songs are
Overture (2008 version)
Green & Red
Wonderful
Picture This
So there’s the poop. The rereleased cd (orderable from here) contains one of these cards. The cards themselves are available for $4 at gigs. To get one of these cards, you actually need to come to a gig–at least for now. Make sense? Feel free to email me privately if you have more questions.
So glad you dig SBW and ESLM–I’m sorry but I just don’t have time to explain them in detail–very slammed with work and five shows in three days. Can somebody else step in and help out E. Smith here?
E. Smith – The SBW story is summarized at the beginning of the SBW audio CD insert. That would be the first place I’d start to better understand the story. If you don’t have the physical CD, I’ll see what I can do about posting a summary online, perhaps on Vimeo SBW channel.
Val, Brandon and Gene – thanks for the great show at Arena Stage Saturday night (9:00PM Show). I My wife and I came up to DC from Tampa – in theory to visit relaltives – but also to catch my first Groovelily show. I had 10 relatives them in tow and they are all new fans of the band.
They really enjoyed Val singing from my lap in the front row!
Also – thanks for the great picture after the show – it was a treat to meet all of you:

Good luck with the remainder of the shows as well as your new endeavors. I look forward to more great music.

You know, the problem with buying the folio to actually play the songs is that you have to bend the spine to be able to keep it open on the music stand. So my copy, the first ever to be autographed by the Awsome Band (thank you, guys), is no longer pristine. Oh well.
As for the piano part, it’s full of tricky syncopated rhythms, and (as I’m practicing by myself) I need my memory/imagination to fill in the melody. I must get together with my singing friends soon!
Hi, it’s Val surfacing here, back home after the Arena run…to let Ed and other Petal Pushers know that we now have some STRIKING 12 download cards that we can make available right away as a special Petal Pusher gift. (Rob is also letting the PPs know about this.) If you are a Petal Pusher, let us know via email if you are interested and we will be delighted to hook you up.
Does anybody have an idea where the new songs fit in to the existing CD? Obviously the Overture is replaced by the new one, but what about the other three?
Thanks, all!!
Jay

Happy New Year, guys!
