Hey everyone,

I've just completed updating the discussion board software. The new version has a bunch of cool features, which I'll be playing with over the next few weeks. Feel free to post any thoughts here, and I'll drop in from time to time to post anything I learn.

Thanks!

Gene,

I notice that when you select "Last Day" you get a tree of Topics that have new messages. The tree only allows you to expand one topic at a time - curious.

Well, the previous version allowed us to check up on just the newest posts, which at work, makes a big time difference when deviating from "work" per se. I have to hunt around for the most recent posts now, which I think is a disadvantage. But maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it?

Rob: Just checked and I modified an option so that as long as there are less than 100 messages in a search result (Last Day, Last Week, or Search), the tree will display fully expanded. Thanks for the heads up!

John: From what I can see, there are two ways check on recent posts: first, you can use the "Last Day" or "Last Week" menu choices in the navbar on the left, or you can search by date (using the "Search" link). In either case, the results are presented to you in the tree view that Rob mentions here. There's also a "check new messages" feature that I have to figure out how to enable; this always shows you messages that are new since the last time you checked for new messages. Is that what you were used to?

Thanks you guys!
-Gene

Gene, sounds like the features are going to be good. It just takes some of us some time to figure out what's what. I'm going to have to experiment tomorrow when I'm not falling asleep on the keyboard!

Hope you've been staying cool! It's been wicked in the Princeton area!!

Thanks Gene. Leaving the tree expanded is the key.

Gene,
I haven't had the chance to go completely through it, but so far the new system looks good! I like how the 'Topics' option displays the last poster. Plus, I'm sure the expanded clipart emoticons Rob discusses elsewhere are going to get a workout.

Good work, o Renaissance man

Ellie,

Select the "Edit Profile" option from the upper right corner of the message window, and then select E-mail Notification.

It appears the system default is to send notifications by e-mail.

Right Rob! Beat me to the punch.

The default email notification is something I can change ... and upon reflection, I think I will turn it off by default and let people opt in if they prefer.

Sorry for the extra emails Ellie!

Hey, no problem, Gene! Thanks guys for the info (not that I had a clue as to what you were talking about LOL ~ if Gene is the resident tecno-nerd, then I am the resident techno-tard!!). Jack took care of it for me after I whined a little!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at both Clinton and the lakeside event!

Ellie
