Internet radio has been a great outlet for independently produced, quality music, for quite a number of years. In the "Radio" thread of this topic area I made mention to the recent decline in stations broadcasting on the Internet, including freeform, college/non-profit, and small market commercial stations - many of whom are GrooveLily supporters. As such, I felt it important to start a discussion thread on this topic. Here's a link to a story, "The Countdown's On for Internet Radio", providing an update on the status of Internet radio and the pending October 20th date on which thousands of Internet radio stations are scheduled to begin paying royalty fees on songs they play and all the ones they have played in the last roughly three years. The story indicates that a possible deal between the recording industry and Internet radio station operators may be in the works that splits the way the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) charges royalties in two, with one schedule for smaller operations and another for larger operations. The introduction of a bill (H.R 5469) in the House of Representatives addressing the situation of smaller broadcasters has apparently been put on hold pending this possible deal. |

On a tangentially related topic (the general state of commercial radio), has anyone heard the great new single, The Last DJ from Tom Petty's soon (tomorrow) to be release album? It's vintage Tom Petty. He lampoons the music and radio industry for its domination by large corporations driven almost exclusively by $$$. The lyrics are attached. --- Rob Well you can’t turn him into a company man You can’t turn him into a whore And the boys upstairs just don’t understand anymore Well the top brass don’t like him talking so much And he won’t play what they say to play And he don’t want to change what don’t need to change And there goes the last DJ Who plays what he wants to play And says what he wants to say Hey, hey, hey And there goes your freedom of choice There goes the last human voice There goes the last DJ Well some folks say they’re gonna hang him so high Because you just can’t do what he did There’s some things you just can’t put in the minds of those kids As we celebrate mediocrity all the boys upstairs want to see How much you’ll pay for what you used to get for free And there goes the last DJ Who plays what he wants to play And says what he wants to say Hey, hey, hey And there goes your freedom of choice There goes the last human voice And there goes the last DJ Well he got him a station down in Mexico And sometimes it will kinda come in And I’ll bust a move and remember how it was back then There goes the last DJ Who plays what he wants to play And says what he wants to say Hey, hey, hey And there goes your freedom of choice There goes the last human voice And there goes the last DJ |

Thanks Adam! I notice the article states that instead of a per song royalty (which requires detailed accounting of songs played), the agreement is based on a percentage of the small broadcaster's revenue OR expenses. I wonder how this agreement is being received in the non-profit/non-commercial/public radio world? --- Rob |

Folks The unofficial GrooveLily radio station in the NY/NJ metro area, WNTI, is now back streaming its broadcast on the Internet. I just heard "The Odometer Song" from "Just the Three of Us". The station just got a bunch of copies of "Just the Three of Us", and has a lot of GrooveLily-friendly DJs. So, here's hoping for more GrooveLily on the radio/web real soon. ---Rob |

I found a new venue for GrooveLily. OK--new to me anyway. The rest of you have probably been listeners for years. I discovered this on an old GrooveLily newsletter--an internet radio station called radioparadise.com Here's the description in the January 2003 newsletter: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9. What We're Listening To -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The best new radio station we've found in ages! Check this out: Radio Paradise "Eclectic Intelligent Rock" www.radioparadise.com (in i-Tunes, it's under: Radio/Americana/Folkscene/Channel 2) Enjoy! They are playing Patty Larkin, Bruce Hornsby, XTC, Shawn Colvin, Tears For Fears, Tori Amos, Indigo Girls, Coldplay, Grey Eye Glances, Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, Patty Griffin, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Ray Charles, Steely Dan... This appears to be the perfect station. It's only lacking GrooveLily, but that will change. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have recently uploaded three songs from Are We There Yet? to the Listener Review Channel (left hand side of the monitor screen) On this channel listeners can review new uploads and if the song gets a bunch of thumbs up votes it is strongly considered to be played on the regular channel. So that's where you all come in! Go to radioparadise.com--click on the Review channel and vote for our favorite band. Ta Da! National exposure! The site has 21225 members and 4,401 are listening right now. OK--it's not quite as easy as I'm making it sound. The GrooveLily song has to actually be playing before you can vote for it. I haven't seen my songs come up yet, but I haven't been sitting at the computer since last night when I uploaded the songs. They have moved from the "new" to the "reviewing" section of my "account" though. The three songs I uploaded are: Live Through This (Are We There Yet?) Apocalyptic Love Song All I Want Is What I Do Not Have I think you will enjoy this radio station. Their slogan is "eclectic radio for the 21st Century" and most of them are pretty good. My plan is to upload a song from one of my GrooveLily CDs every week or so. And maybe I'd better upload a few songs from other groups so they don't think I'm a plant (or that is--Petal Pusher!).

The story of my life! I tell you all about radioparadise.com and encourage you to give a thumbs up to my uploads of GrooveLily songs. Now for the past two days radioparadise has been unavailable--limping yesterday and now today completely offline. They are getting a new server and after the growing pains, things should be greatly improved. I regret if anyone spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was going on. So I'll give you all an update when I actually see the whites of my uploads' eyes. (OK--that metaphor is horrible--but you get the idea) |

Of course--I post that the radioparadise.com site is down and now the site is back--story of my life. I haven't seen my GrooveLily songs yet, but I was thinking, if just a few GrooveLily fans joined the Radioparadise.com site and uploaded different songs--three or four from different people per week--we could really make an impact. If all the uploads come from me, they'll just think I'm some crazy fan, but if the uploads trickle in sporadically from all over the country--they'll sit up and take notice, right? |

I think the new server is now in place at radioparadise.com. The Listener Review Channel is back and you can again upload music in the "My Account" area. So if just a few GL fans would wander over to Radio Paradise and join (free) and upload a GrooveLily song or two along with another artist or two (so they don't get too suspicious--LOL!) GL would get airtime with other people who like the same kind of music we like. RP has about 21279 members and judging from the "birthday list" the age demographic seems to be 20's-50's who live all over the world. I understand from the forums that there are about 800 tunes in the Listener Review Channel queue, so the more and different GL tunes we submit the better. Just as long as we don't overwhelm them all at once. A couple hints about uploading: Songs have to be saved in 192 bitrate and in mp3 format. Getting the mp3's off the Groovelily website didn't work because they are only 160 bitrate. I had to copy songs from my CD's. I had to set this up when I saved the songs to my Windows Media Player. Go to "Tools", then "Options", then the "Copy Music" tab. There you can set audio quality to "highest quality" (192 bitrate) and I had to purchase something called CyberLink MP3--$9.95--to save to MP3 format. There were several options of MP3 saver (called "ripping"?) downloads and they all seemed to be around $9.95. This is all getting pretty technical for a post. It took me some time to figure out (techno-challenged?) but was quite easy once I knew what to do.

I just heard "All I Want Is What I Do Not Have" on the Listener Review Channel on www.radioparadise.com If you get there in the next 10-15 minutes you can give it a thumbs up. On the homepage click on LRC (far right side) then on the thumbs-up symbol next to GL's song. The vote registry is not working correctly right now--but they say it is recording somewhere out there in cyberspace. For example, it indicates that I gave this song a thumbs down--now you know THAT'S NOT RIGHT! (Of course ALL the songs I gave thumbs up to have a thumbs down next to them--I sent in a bug report.) The site is still working out problems with the new server. (Message edited by artmarcia on April 05, 2004) |

Mesh - I Don't Think They Know Outkast - My Favorite Things Naked Eyes - Promises Promises (Tony Mansfield 12' Mix) Madness - Bed and Breakfast Man (Peel Session) Gary Numan - My Breathing Stereo 360 - Radio Parade |

Hi Folks, Looks like "All I Want Is What I Do Not Have" should be coming up on the Radio Paradise Listener Review Channel in the next few minutes. You will be able to vote on the song for 30-40 minutes after it plays. The current time is 1:50 PM EASTERN (Wednesday April 7th) http://www.radioparadise.com/modules.php?name=review To vote on Radio Paradise you must first register (see the "Registration and Settings" selection from the left hand navigation bar on the Radio Paradise home page). If this Listener Review Channel song cycle holds, expect your next opportunity to catch "All I Want Is What I Do Not Have" (and vote THUMBS UP) will be about 9 AM EASTERN on Thursday April 8th. Petal Pushers that do vote, please log the fact that you voted by visiting our Poll: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/Petal_Pushers/polls ---Rob p.s. "All I Want Is What I Do Not Have" played at about 2:17 PM EASTERN and the songs that preceded it were the same as Marcia reports above: Stereo 360 - Radio Parade Gary Numan - My Breathing Madness - Bed and Breakfast Man (Peel Session) Naked Eyes - Promises Promises (Tony Mansfield 12' Mix) Outkast - My Favorite Things Mesh - I Don't Think They Know The Bowery Electric - I Still Remember Flirtations - Nothing But A Heartache GrooveLily - All I Want Is What I Do Not Have (Message edited by rob on April 07, 2004) |

AIWIWIDNH is playing now on radio paradise... 2:19pm EDT. Unfortunately, I cannot yet vote. After registering this morning I have not yet received the activation email. If I try to login or request lost password is says unknown user. If I try to register again it says email address already registered. I'm bummed. Can't vote, but am listening! jd

Thanks Jon for trying--it will be on again. Rob guessed about 2:00 pm Eastern so 2:19 pm was pretty accurate. So Rob, our math guru--when can we expect to hear AIWIWIDNH again? As of yesterday, uploading songs wasn't back on line, but Bill the technical genius behind Radio Paradise, said that uploading should be available again soon. Marcia |

Folks, As promised, here are the projected cycle times for AIWIWIDNH on the Radio Paradise Listener Review Channel for the next week. These are PROJECTED times based on observing the frequency of occurrence of the song over the last several days. Errors in the estimated times will compound, so the projections toward the end of next week are most likely to be farther off than say those for this weekend. The projections assume the number of songs in rotation on the Radio Paradise Listener Review Channel remains relatively constant (e.g., if they add a one additional 3 minute song to the rotation, then the projections are going to be off by 3 minutes). I'd plan for a 30 minute around these times if you are hoping to catch the song and vote. Also, use the list of songs that come before AIWIWIDNH (found above) as your cue to standby. [These are spreadsheet calculations, so please excuse the implied sense of precision in these times - e.g. "12:59"] 4/9/04 5:25 AM (All Times are EASTERN (GMT-5:00)) 4/10/04 12:59 AM 4/10/04 8:33 PM 4/11/04 4:07 PM 4/12/04 11:41 AM 4/13/04 7:15 AM 4/14/04 2:49 AM 4/14/04 10:23 PM 4/15/04 5:57 PM 4/16/04 1:31 PM (Message edited by rob on April 08, 2004) |

I know that getting onto Radio Paradise in the past couple weeks has been a challenge. I wish I had made this big discovery a month ago--or a month from now. LOL Growing pains are never fun, but the results can be wonderful. Thanks for hanging in there with me and giving the thumbs up to GL. I hope you are having as much fun as I am with hearing "our band" on Radio Paradise. For even more impact, after you vote you can go to the "Forums", then "About RP" then "Review Channel Song Comments". There you can leave your candid enthusiasm for AIWIWIDNH. As you know enthusiasm is contagious. If we can get a song on the main channel we will reach a lot more people. (This is a copy of a message I left on the Petal Pushers Yahoo Groups site) Marcia

I continue to be unable to register on radio paradise. I register and ultimately receive the message to wait for the activation email, which never comes. Trying to re-register says email address already registered. Trying to request a lost password says no corresponding user info. Trying to login says invalid login info. After registering and waiting the 24 hours for the activation period to timeout, I can register again because after 24 hrs it apparently deletes my original request. I am giving up. Maybe it's their switchover to a new server, maybe not. Maybe it's me, but I doubt it. In any event, it's frustrating. In the words of the immortal Charlie Brown.... AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH! Jon, I know that Bill is in NYC for a little R&R after all the stress of the new webserver. Rob's right though--he's the man who can fix your problem. I'm sure he will add your problem to his laundry list. Once again, my impecible timing is right on. Sorry guys. Maybe we should just give this all a rest for a couple of weeks. I had no idea that the webserver change would create this massive ripple in the force field! When my sweepstakes site got a new server, the whole process was but a minor blip. The good news is that AIWIWIDNH should get its daily play for a few more days--I would think until they get the voting thing worked out. Speaking of my sweepstakes site--I put out a post to them and now at the Radio Crystal Blue site GL has about 20 new votes since yesterday. One gal wrote back: Artmarcia, I remember your first post about GrooveLily and I checked out their music back then and loved it! I'll vote everyday for them, they really are very good. The Petal Pushers ROCK!(with a little assistance from my buddies at online-sweepstakes.com LOL) GrooveLily has gone up about 35 votes in the last couple days on the Radio Crystal Blue Website! SEE: http://pub36.bravenet.com/vote/vote.php?usernum=3071115404 For GL to come out on top and get more airplay, everybody needs to get in there and vote. So what's the big deal? What do they win if they get the most votes? I quote from the website: Top winners in each CD bracket become RCB Gems. 2nd and 3rd place become 2nd Stage winners. Each receive extra airplay. We know from out own personal experience that when people hear GL--especially in concert, but also on the radio--they love the music and want more. So we just need to get more people to hear them.

Aerin Tedesco 447 votes or 47% (down from 55% since Sunday 4/11)) We are closing the gap! Keeping voting. Seven more days of voting left. Folks, Here are the projected air-times for "All I Want Is What I Do Not Have" on the Radio Paradise Listener Review Channel. All the previous disclaimers on the accuracy of these projections still apply. The Radio Paradise Listener Review Channel rotation has remained relatively constant for the last week, so the earlier projections were only off by 10 minutes after more than a week. This may change, however, in the coming week. Saturday 4/17/04 8:55 AM (All Times are EASTERN (GMT-5:00)) Sunday 4/18/04 4:29 AM Monday 4/19/04 12:03 AM Monday 4/19/04 7:37 PM Tuesday 4/20/04 3:11 PM Wednesday 4/21/04 10:45 AM Thursday 4/22/04 6:19 AM Friday 4/23/04 1:53 AM Friday 4/23/04 9:27 PM ---Rob

It was a productive voting weekend for GrooveLily. We are just 30 votes short of making this a dead heat, which is amazing given that Aerin Tedesco had a 2:1 lead just one week ago. Here are the latest numbers from the Radio Crystal Blue Airplay Vote. 1. GrooveLily 441 votes or 41% (up from 22% since Sunday 4/11) 2. Aerin Tedesco 471 votes or 43% (down from 55% since Sunday 4/11)) Great work everyone! Keeping voting. Voting closes Friday. Remember, you can vote daily. http://pub36.bravenet.com/vote/vote.php?usernum=3071115404 ---Rob |

Great work everyone. Closing a several hundred vote gap in a little more than a week was more than I could have imagined. A very impressive flexing of the (cyber) muscle of the GrooveLily Petal Pushers and GrooveLily fans in general. But it's not over until the fat lady sings, which is Friday. So, let's keep voting daily and let's try to make GrooveLily the top vote getters among all the Brackets. Of the 15 brackets, GrooveLily is currently the top overall vote getter, with the exception of two artists in Bracket 12, which include John Taglieri (who opens for GrooveLily at the Minstrel Coffeehouse in Morris Township, NJ on July 2!). Thanks again to everyone that voted. If you haven't yet voted, then please consider visiting: http://pub36.bravenet.com/vote/vote.php?usernum=3071115404 Vote daily until Friday --Rob |

Anybody have any stats on how many people listen to Radio Paradise vs. how many listen to Radio Crystal Blue? All I know is *I* like listening to Radio Paradise a lot...but I can't get them to hook me up with my password to save my life. In other news, the RCB voting proves conclusively: the Petal Pushers rule the universe! Yahoo! |

I really would like to vote on the Radio Paradise Listener Review Channel, but have never managed to think about it/be at a computer at the appropriate times. Frustrating. The Crystal Blue folks at least have a voting scheme you can get to. |

Brendan, My **guess** would be Radio Paradise has more listeners. Radio Paradise is a 24/7 operation, with 3000-5000 listeners typically online (per their website). Radio Crystal Blue is a weekly show that's been around for about 4 years. It could potentially have a large audience, but I see its (Yahoo-based) mailing list numbers fewer than 600 subscribers. --Rob |

Hi all I've been gone for the past week and when I get home find the new GrooveLily stats are: (drumroll please, Gene!) 1. GrooveLily www.groovelily.com 542 44% 2. Aerin Tedesco www.aerintedesco.com 494 41% 3. Jeanette Palmer www.jeanettepalmer.com 104 9% 4. Brendan Dwyer www.brendandwyer.com 26 2% 5. Antje Duvekot www.antjeduvekot.com 53 4% AHEAD BY 48 POINTS! Of course, Aerin is at this moment mobilizing his posse, so we can't let up. But it's lookin' GOOD. Marcia |

I am going to have a huge feeling of satisfaction when we establish a GrooveLily song (or three) in the regular playlist on Radio Paradise. I think it's going to take some dedication (not to mention uploading songs) from a variety of people. Voting on Radio Paradise is harder than our voting on Radio Crystal Blue, but ultimately more worthwhile. Which is not to say that I'm not thrilled about the big turnaround in the RCB votes. Wow--watching that bar graph rise is too much fun! |

REGISTRATION UPDATE for RadioParadise.com: I finally tried to register again this morning, and it worked. This time I did NOT choose my own password when registering; rather, I let the system assign me a password. I received the activation email within minutes, and was able to then sign in and change my password to one of my own choosing. If you have been unsuccessful registering at RadioParadise.com try registering again but leave the passwords blank. After activating your account, you can then reset your password to one of your choosing in the registration and settings page.

Oh, and just for the record, Aerin Tedesco is a woman. And if you haven't listened to any of her music yet, you should give it a spin. (www.aerintedesco.com) Not bad stuff, although my votes will stay with GrooveLily. |

Concerning Radio "Paradise", I'm hoping all the problems people have been having (including the apparent lack of attention to updating/fixing to the Listener Review Channel) are anomalies resulting from their transition to new web server. The Listener Review Channel is long overdue for some "freshening up". |

Bill, the technical guru behind Radio Paradise, is in New York right now. I would suspect that when he planned his trip he thought all the problems due to the webserver change would be long behind him. I guess the Listener Review Channel is a new feature of the site since this past February and there are still kinks to be worked out. Although it matters greatly to us, I don't think the LRC is a major priority for RP right now. Of course, I want to see some MORE of my--or Rob's or whoever's--GrooveLily uploads appear on Radio Paradise. I still don't think they're accepting new uploads at this point. Lord grant me patience. And I want it Right Now. Marcia |

Groovelily was once again featured on the April 18th playlist on Radio Crystal Blue. The set included: T.J. Rehmi "You Are We Am I" (Blue Mix) - The Warm Chill CD GrooveLily "Live Through This" (Are We There Yet?)- Are We There Yet? CD Patti Witten "going back to moline" - Sycamore Tryst CD Mark McKay "Constantine Gardens" - Live At The Memory Hotel CD Norah Jones "Creepin' In" - Feels Like Home CD etc. Read it for yourself at: http://cblue.lunarpages.com/ Just think what kind of airplay GL is going to get after they win by a landslide!

Folks, According to the Radio Crystal Blue Airplay Vote site the voting deadline is:
"Friday April 23 at midnight EDT (into Friday morning, that is)" The phrase "into Friday morning" is a bit ambiguous and could be interpreted to mean today (Thursday) is the last full day of voting. So please remember to vote today. http://pub36.bravenet.com/vote/vote.php?usernum=3071115404 Thanks! --Rob p.s. Of the 75 artists across all 15 brackets, GrooveLily sits 3rd in total votes received. Not too bad. |

Jon--I am so impressed with your persistance. It had to be very sweet to hear AIWIWIDNH on Radio Paradise and be able to vote. It would be nice if we could actually see the votes though. When the votes show up it would be wonderful to see an overwhelming 30+ thumbs up for GrooveLily. From Rob's PP poll alone I count 11. I was hoping for more, but realize that the voting has NOT been easy. What else would be great is if GL fans would go to the "Forums" then "Review Channel Song Comments" which is under "Radio Paradise/General"--"About RP". Posting comments can be done anytime. Getting a positive dialogue going would be very helpful. Here's a little exchange I had with "natsthename" on April 12: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- artmarcia wrote: GrooveLily - All I Want Is What I Do Not Have I love how this song starts out quiet and very clear and ends up loud and with almost a controlled cacophony of overlapping threads. An interesting concept. GrooveLily never fails to surprise and delight me with their musicality and poetic lyrics. natsthename wrote: I really dig their sound. I uploaded "Are We There Yet?" previously, but it earned a "sorry." This band belongs on RP! artmarcia wrote: GrooveLily is the most exciting band I have run into in a very long time. Everything about them is just awesome--musicianship, lyrics, variety of the styles of music they compose and perform. The songs touch my heart. They DO belong on RP. I hope we will be hearing a lot more from them. -------------------------------------------------- If we post messages about AIWIWIDNH then we can respond to each other. A dialogue is much better than my little "posts in the dark". Uploading new songs to Radio Paradise is not currently available, but when it is I will be sure to let everyone know. Marcia |

In the Radio Crystal Blue contest does it look to the rest of you that after the first bracket, the winners might move up to a finalist bracket? Look at the bottom of the stats page. We may be just warming up, huh? I just sent an email to RCB, asking this very question. Will post the result when it arrives. |

Ask and Ye Shall Receive! I emailed Dan Herman--Grand Poobah of Radio Crystal Blue about my above (two posts up)qwery and he replied: Dear Dan, > > I am very new to your site. After the Airplay Vote 2004 contest is over will the fifteen bracket "winners" have another contest in a "finalist" bracket? Can you please tell me what is the 2003 FINALIST Bracket and the EP FINALIST Bracket ? > > Thanks, > Marcia Hi there Marcia. Welcome to the site..and thanks for asking very good questions. The Vote ends today at midnight EDT. This is the last day...The top 3 of the first 15 "CD" brackets all receive featured airplay between the months of May and August. Top winners in each receive extra airplay and exposure as Gems. In the 2003 and EP brackets, it's also the last day. In these, only the top 2 will get featured airplay. 2003 finalist are hand-picked by me from those that had gotten a good number of votes last year, but between now and that time had not yet been selected as a Gem. This is the time of the year I let the public choose. 6 months from now I make my decision on other Gems. I try to keep it fair in that way. EP brackets are different in that each participant sent me an EP (CD of less than 7 songs) for airplay consideration. They are handled differently because there are less available songs. Hope that answers your questions, and I hope you vote today and check out the show on Sunday, plus my archived ones as well. If you'd like I'll add you to my email list. The Radio Crystal Blue Polls closed sometime this morning. Thanks to all of you that voted. GrooveLily received the most votes in their bracket, and hence will receive additional airplay on Radio Crystal Blue (a weekly Internet radio program). The last I checked before the polls closed the numbers were as Marcia indicates above. GrooveLily received the 3rd most votes among the 75 artists across all 15 brackets. Great work! ---Rob |

Hey Flo-- Thanks to Carolie for posting the Radio Crystal Blue contest. She had gone to the site to vote for a friend in another bracket and discovered GrooveLily in bracket 10. Oh--I agree, another week and V/B/G would have had the most votes. It was amazing to go from 22% of the vote to 48% of the vote in a little over a week. To go from 155 votes to 660 votes, an increase of over 500 votes. The fans pitched in and got it done. Impressive! And now GL will be a RCB "gem"--featured airplay, maybe an interview. I think our next big feat is to get a GrooveLily song on the Radio Paradise main channel. The voting on the Listener Radio Channel is one thing, but even more important is chatter. When AIWIWIDNH comes on a few of us need to start up a dialogue about GL, the song--just whatever sincere praise you have to share. Someone will come in with negative comments--that's OK. The thing about the chatter is, you can go onto the site at any time and post a message on the Review Channel Song Comments (go to the "Forums" then "Review Channel Song Comments" which is under "Radio Paradise/General"--"About RP") To use an analogy from my profession, if I want a child to really know that I appreciate his art work I shouldn't just say, "It's great--I love it!" It's better to say, "I love the contrast you used when you painted the yellow and orange flower on the back of your blue bird." In the second example, the child knows that I have truly seen and appreciated his work--not to mention the little bit of teaching I have thrown in (use of contrast) to my comment. I think the same is true of music criticism. I've noticed that a lot of the comments in the forums on RP are very specific as to why someone liked--or DIDN'T like--a song. Anyway--posting comments to the forums can be done at any time of the day. If you want to quote someone, just click on the "quote" button and the other person's words show up in your post. This is a small and easy act which can have a big impact, IMHO. I think it's worth a shot. Radio Paradise had something like 5,435 listeners the other day--a new record. There was an article about them in the April 19, 2004 issue of Time magazine: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1101040419-610082,00.html RP also believes in quality and independant music. Unfortunately, uploading songs right now isn't functioning and Bill, technical guru of RP, is currently in London. So we will just have to be patient. |

The Listener Review Channel on radioparadise.com has the votes back up, but I've lost track of when AIWIWIDNH is scheduled to play again. Can you give me any help Rob? From the poll GL should have a bare minimum of 11 thumbs up. I suspect RP will be changing the playlist very soon. As far as uploading songs on Radio Paradise the following note was posted: ********************************* The music upload function has been suspended temporarily. We hope to have it back in service by May 5, 2004. Thanks for your patience. *********************************** I'd like to see a GrooveLily song--or three--on the Listener Review Channel at all times. If we can get different people from all over the country to upload GrooveLily songs over a period of several months, RP should take notice right?

Marcia, Try today around 11:30 AM EDT. I have not spot checked times recently, so no guarantees (and hence why I am not posting any additional projected times at this point). While the Listener Review Channel is again showing vote tallies, they are all suspiciously low. This either means they added a bunch of new songs or the numbers are bogus (e.g., they don't reflect all earlier voting). --Rob

File this under the state of commercial FM Radio Yesterday there was a piece on NPR's All Things Considered on what we can only hope is a trend in commercial FM radio (less commercials, more music focused, knowledgeable DJs). Here's an abstract from the piece:
A new style of commercial FM radio station represents a backlash against the rest of the industry's consolidation, narrow playlists, and similar sounds. Stations that have tried the new "Neo-radio" format have shot up the charts. Listen to the radio piece here. ---Rob |
