Discovering GrooveLily six months ago has opened up whole new worlds to me. Through GL I learned about Radio Paradise. Through Radio Paradise I've discover a few other bands that qualify for my own personal "quality music revolution." One that I am most currently excited about is Carbon Leaf (who are from Virginia by the way.) Yesterday I attended one of the best Art/Music Festivals in the Midwest--The Smoky Hill River Festival in Salina, KS. I go for the ART, the entertainment has always been secondary for me. But on the drive up to Salina yesterday, I'm looking at the schedule of events and there is Carbon Leaf--performing at 2:00 and 5:00 pm. I've just discovered this band on Radio Paradise and now I get to see them LIVE, TWICE for my $6 festival button. Wow! And while I'm sitting there enjoying this band, I'm also visualizing GrooveLily up there on the Oakdale Stage and Stage Two. I took one my GrooveLily postcards to the Patrons Breakfast and talked to the gal who books the acts. First I mentioned how excited I was that they had been able to secure Carbon Leaf, then I said I knew of a band that was wonderful and would be a perfect fit for the Smoky Hill Festival (handing her the post card) and she said, "GrooveLily, oh yes, I have been talking to Valerie Vigoda." It was all I could do to walk calmly back to my table and consume my quiche. (Message edited by artmarcia on June 13, 2004) |

I've heard a lot about Carbon Leaf, Marcia, but somehow keep missing them. They're really popular with a lot of my "Celtic" friends. I tried the same thing not too long ago - took one of the postcards that I keep in my purse up to a woman that does concerts in the VA/MD area. She said that the music she does is mainly Celtic, but had heard the band at other folk venues and really liked them!!! |

Ellie, promoting GrooveLily has become my new hobby and I have gained more than I could have possibly imagined. By listening for hours to Radio Paradise waiting for my GL uploads to surface, I discovered Carbon Leaf. The "hook" song for me was "Toy Soldiers." At the the Smoky Hill River Festival on Saturday the only cover that Carbon Leaf did was the Beatles song "Dear Prudence." How about that for a coincidence? Didn't GL cover Dear Prudence on Sunday eve? All I can say is Great Bands Think Alike. Yesterday I went to a house concert at the home of a man who I'm hoping will bring GL to Wichita. Actually I'm initially there to support this man and his work, but hey--the band was good! It was an acoustic husband/wife duo called Small Potatoes. Quality Music is certainly having a Revolution in my head. |

Marcia, >Didn't GL cover Dear Prudence on Sunday eve? Actually, they borrowed a couple lines from the Dear Prudence to end the reworked version of Prayer for the Unrequited. Your point is well taken, however. --Rob |

But Rob, what is the chance that my #1 favorite band and my #2 favorite band would play the same song (even just a few lines) within 24 hours of each other? That's just spooky. GrooveLily and Carbon Leaf sound nothing alike, yet have a similar standard of quality, at least in my mind. |
