I find myself constantly amazed at the beauty, depth, and brilliance of the musical and lyrical constructions of this band. In a song I have heard a hundred times, I suddenly find something I never noticed (or did not appreciate in fullness). Similarly, a song be it new, but often familiar, will emerge as righteous, inciteful, or alarmingly personal and pleasant. I would like to see a topic where observations, reminiscences, and conversations of individual songs or even just a single bar, note, or word (Texas!) can be shared and thus our world expanded. Discussions of shows, albums, and appearances are important. However, their scope often leaves us with few words that can encompass such a whole and those we use do not do justice to our experience. Requests are an effort in this direction. Adding why, or how, or where, or when this song, will expand one's experience to others. And a very important others is the band. Telling them they are great, fantastic, we love them are all good (and don't ever stop), but finding a specific item of insight and capturing it, will mean a lot. Virtually, every note, word, and combination there of, is carefully and lovingly crafted (even when it's funny). Just as the intimate performance setting has it's specialness, we can continue to share that intimacy through exploration of the songs and what they mean to us. I look forward to sharing such intimacies after a GrooveLily show at MSG.

Great idea, Peter, I think this is a Gene-the-webmaster question. What do you think, Gene? Driving way back from Salina, KS yesterday I was drafting a short list of words/themes which I hear repeatedly in GrooveLily songs: Pearl inside the oyster Fire/Light You can't win if you don't play Fairy tales--The Little Matchgirl, of course, but there are others, which at this minute are escaping me B&TEC was definitely a concept album. I frequently catch myself gasping at some truth in the poetry of the lyrics. Reminds me of a church I used to attend where every Sunday in the sermon the minister would always seem to address whatever topic I needed to hear for the week--uncanny. I though he was psychic and had some kind of direct pipeline into my soul. I finally decided that universal truth is just that--universal. Expect to see the "edited" note as more themes pop into my head. |

Hey all ... I just added a main level topic called "Songs / Songwriting" I also moved some already existing conversations under this topic (including Pete's related post on "Every Little Bit"). I think this will be a good general place to discuss what you're talking about Pete ... great idea! Thanks for all your great thoughts! -Gene

Ed, Marcia, and Rob Thank you so much for responding to my Topic suggestion. Such additions to the GL world was what I was looking for. And I must say, it has already proved to be much better than I thought. From Ed's sharing thoughts of a personal favorite, to Marcia's driving thoughts on GL themes, to Rob's family stumbling across the "Every Bit" original (and sharing with his daughters, discovering this song through GL). And then there is Ed's Wrecking Ball. Tears, goosebumps, joy and the GrooveLily world expanding right before our eyes. Thank you (and Gene too, for getting the Topic up so quickly). |

Thanks for asking the question Peter--it is bearing fruit. We are having quite a renaissance on the GL Discussion Boards--14 posts today--and many different posters with significant and personal thoughts. |
