I heard recently, probably on "All Things Considered" on public radio, that the bicentennial of Han Christian Anderson's birth will be held April 2-December 6, 2005. Here's a website: http://www.hca2005.com/ Seems like there ought to be some good tie-ins to Striking 12? I just recently realized that at least four musicals have been based on HCA's stories: "Once Upon a Mattress"--The Princess and the Pea "Honk"--The Ugly Duckling "Striking 12"--The Little Match Girl "Once on This Island"--Caribbean retelling of the Little Mermaid Does anybody know of any others? "Honk" and "Striking 12" were both featured in that festival of new musicals GL participated in in October. I think "Honk" was in the festival maybe two or three years ago. |
