Guys,

How about hearing "The Hook" ? I haven't heard this tune since July 2001, and I would really love to hear it again.

Other possibilities (should "The Hook" not make the cut) include "Can You Believe", "You Take Control", and "Lightning And The Tree"

I'm sure the master of sound production Rob Killenberger can handle Terry's request for Wrecking Ball, right Rob? :)

Thanks for your consideration!

Kate,

I'm not sure if I should give up my discussion board formatting secrets .... OK, you forced it out of me. <Be aware, however, that message formatting can become highly additive :)>

For a smilely face simply type a colon followed by a ")" (don't include the quotes) to get :)

To get a sad face type a colon followed by a "(" (don't include the quotes) to get :(

Other faces can be obtained by typing ((again, don't include the quotes):
  • "\clipart{angry}" to obtain
  • "\clipart{crazy}" to obtain
  • "\clipart{happy}" to obtain
  • "\clipart{lame}" to obtain
  • "\clipart{new}" to obtain
  • "\clipart{proud}" to obtain
  • "\clipart{wink}" to obtain

Go to the "Formatting" section under the Documentation heading on the left Panel of this screen for more information.

Use the "Preview/Post Message" button to preview your formatting. Don't worry, nothing gets posted until you hit the Post this Message button, so feel free to experiment.

Hey Tri-state Area Friends,

How about a show of hands for those of you planning to make the Croton-on-Hudson show on Friday evening?

The Bond family will be at the show, along with as many friends as we can drag along. It should be a great show, with the rarely seen 4-piece band! (perhaps a first?)

Well, Jenny and I (and podge!) finally made it to another GL show - and it was a wonderful evening for it: peach-russet sunset, gentle warmth, chilled-out folk all around. Finding the park was a small challenge :-) but the peaceful vibes seemed to flow through the band, too, and into the music. 'No Room in Your Bag' was the highlight for me - along with actually getting to acquire the Nutshell :-). Thanks, all.

Folks,

Photos from last evening's wonderful GrooveLily performance at the beautiful Senasqua Park, Croton-on-Hudson, NY are now available for your viewing pleasure. See the Croton-NY folder of the Photo section of the GrooveLily Pad on Yahoo!Groups. If you are not a GrooveLily Pad member, then you will need to join to gain access to the photos. Go to the GrooveLily Pad home page and select the Join this Group option in the upper right portion of the screen.

There are 28 total pictures. I recommend you use the Slideshow option, and manually advance the individual photos. I used my exclusive Petal Pusher backstage access privileges to capture some rarely seen pre-show activities. :-)

Also the band unvieled its new rear-screen holographic projection system at the Croton show. The venue was actually the dark basement of the VFW hall, but the holographic project system really makes it look like you are outdoors. Check it out! :-)

I'll post a set list and other comments later.

Another great GrooveLily show, this time in a park located in the lower Hudson Valley of NY state long the shores of the Hudson River. The stage back drop was tremendous, the mighty Hudson River surrounded by the hills of the Palisades on the horizon, with sail boats bobbing up and down in the adjacent harbor. The Park was full of families enjoying the most incredible mid-July weather one could imagine. I'd estimate the crowd to be about 200-300.

I'll start with the unusual stuff: (1) the band had to introduce themselves and (2) Chris Tarrow was not as integrated into the music as I've seen in the past (3) no lights!. Regarding the introduction, I guess I'm accustomed to the sponsoring organization giving a brief "Please welcome", but that never happen. Not a big deal, just different.

One of the great things about seeing the 5-piece unit (or 4-piece in the case of this performance) are the added wrinkles that Chris Tarrow's guitar playing brings to the music, especially when Val and Chris begin trading licks (Sitting on the Fence is normally a good example). Chris' contributions on this evening were much more subdued, but there were still some memorable moments, especially Diva Girl. Chris added a great solo to this touching (unrequited) love ballad. We love Chris!

One thing to note is that this outdoor venue had NO stage lights, so it was a bit of a race against the Sun for the band. This may have somewhat influenced the shape of the music for the evening.

Personal highlights: (1) Hearing my requests (thanks again!), (2) Apocalyptic Love Song, and Little Nemesis. Apocalyptic Love Song was significantly kicked-up from what I remember in the past. Great inter-play between Gene and Val. This number really rocked. Another observation that my wife Terry made about Apocalyptic Love Song was that Gene sang backing vocals on this song (not Brendan). Good catch Terry.

Little Nemesis is always a very hot number live, but this time it was even hotter. As I've said before, I was never a very big fan of Little Nemesis (sorry Val), but this song has unquestionably become one of my favorite live numbers.

The problem with personal highlights is you run the risk of slighting other great performances of the evening. So honorable mentions go to: Day of Reckoning , Sitting on the Fence, and (of course) Shannon. The problem with honorable mentions is you run the risk of slighting other great performances of the evening. So, … ( OK, I loved ALL the songs performed that evening)

Here's the set list:

Set #1
  • Live Through This
  • Looking Forward/Looking Back
  • Coming Home
  • You Take Control (by request - yea!)
  • Shannon
  • Can You Believe (by request - yea!)
  • Breathe In, Breath Out
  • Phantom Lover
  • Sitting on the Fence

Set #2
  • The Balancing Act (great to hear this one again)
  • Apocalyptic Love Song (HOT)
  • Little Nemesis (even HOTTER)
  • Diva Girl (kicked-up with a great guitar solo by Chris Tarrow)
  • No Room in Your Bag
  • Day of Reckoning

The crowd reaction was very positive. I had a woman speak to me (up in the "orchestra pit" area) during the performance about how she comes to this concert series all the time and GrooveLily was really GREAT. She thought the band would be invited back, without question. I spoke with an older gentleman (I'm guessing 70s) that was very impressed with the band, despite the fact that this was not music from his generation and that the band graciously declined to play the cover tune he requested during the set break (:-)).

A very special thanks to Jodi, Adam and Monica for the great job manning the merchandise table (aka, "Lil-mart") Thanks to my friend Tony and his lovely daughters for sharing in a wonderful evening of music with the Bond family.

Photos from the evening are on the GrooveLily Pad.

p.s.: Val mentioned that today (Friday July 12th) was "their day of reckoning", but did not elaborate. My/Terry's guess - how about a Wedding anniversary?

Rob,

I think you are correct. I remember seeing Joe Jackson a couple of years back at the Bottom Line, in July (as he was recording "Summer in the city") and I remember him mentioning a happy anniversary to Val and Brendan (although I didn't know them at the time).

It is more than quite possible it was on the 12th!

See you later today.

Rob & Adam,
That sounds familiar from some conversation or other a month or so ago.

One question: you have Live Through This starting off both sets? Also, I'm having problems accessing the pictures -- clicking on the 'photos' link in your message gives me a Document Not Found', and when I go onto the site normally and clicking on 'Photos', it says the album is empty?

Beyond the minor kvetching, sounds like a great show Friday. That's a really encouraging turnout: if GrooveLily turned even a fraction of the audience onto the music, the Revolution is rolling along nicely.

Jim,

The band didn't like how Live Through This sounded in the first set, so they did it over again to start the second set. :-) Actually, thanks for catching my boo-boo. I corrected the original posting.

Concerning accessing the photos on the GrooveLily Pad, it sounds like Yahoo! doesn't think you are a member of this group (Yahoo! will generate a "Document Not Found" message if a non-member tries access a members-only feature)

Are you a GrooveLily Pad member? (remember, this is not the Petal Pushers group) If not, follow my instructions in the original Photos posting to Join.

Oh yay, now off to the Lake Winona show! (only a 10-minute drive from our lovely Lake Hopatcong) This is going to be a real party! Expect more posts (and photos) on this sometime this evening. Looking forward to seeing most of the NJ Petal Pusher Team - perhaps a group photo? (we'll miss you Jodi :-().

Nice to hear that my husband is warming up to "Little Nemesis", as it's always been one of my favs. Val's violin playing on that one sounded more like a guitar, than a violin. It's amazing, the sounds she can get out of that viper. One thing Rob left out was that "The Odometer Song" was on the set list as an encore, but wasn't done, no doubt due to the impending darkness setting in. Too bad, it would have gotten our sleepy 5 year old up and moving. Hope to hear it today. See some of you in a little while.

Terry
