Brendan/Val/Gene: Before you split for warmer climes and, hopefully, full recuperation, I wanted to say thank you again for a simply wonderful show @ The Cherry Tree on Sunday. You guys are so smooth, so talented, and so zoned into giving it your best, I just wanted to be sure you knew how appreciative I am that GrooveLily exists. I wish you could be your audience one night and listen to how smart, ambitious and true the music you make is. While it's from the heart, it's always from the head, too. There is never a minute, it seems, that your creative wheels stop turning. That, for me, is the essence of the GrooveLily experience. The words and music attack and challenge mind and soul, coalescing into the shared experience we hear and see and relate to (who hasn't lived through their own "Looking Forward/Looking Back" or "Prayer For The Unrequited" episodes)? Yeah, I see me in your music, feeling what you felt when you wrote it. That, for me, is what art really is all about, sharing the moment of creation. And share you do, this great gift, nite after nite, even when you're feeling like crap (like on Sunday). That you do it for the joy of it, and not for the gig $$$, that you do it because you have to get this message out, day after day, and not because great riches beckon, that you sing and play your hearts out for the sheer joy of singing and playing your hearts out, makes me proud to know you. And makes all of us blessed who get the opportunity to hear you. So, thank you for your generosity, your wit, your spirit, and your inspired playing (Note to Brendan: Don't conk your noggin on that keyboard, you do get awfully close at times on those downbeats...). Most importantly, thank you for your passion and the insane idea you have that what you're doing makes a difference. That alone, and most especially, sets GooveLily above the massed mediocrity that is emblematic of today's tired music scene. CL |

(blush, wipe small tear from eye) Thank you, Charles. Getting feedback like yours keeps us going when we feel flu-ish and tired. You really made our day. I am SO PSYCHED that we made a difference that night--after a three-day staying-awake fest at NERFA, and to drag ourselves out of the van, into the cold, and up onto the stage and get a standing ovation--that's all the nyquil I need, really. Please keep posting your reactions to shows, my friend. It keeps us smiling as we drive. --Brendan |

Geez. I never got such a nice response when I announced that I was changing my son's name to Brend-Gene. Sigh.....Gipped again. . . . . . . . . ;-) --Dave |

Charles, Thanks for your insights into the "soul" of what makes GrooveLily a really special band. I couldn't agree more. Brendan, I hope you made lot's of good business contacts at NERFA. I'm sure you guys "knocked them dead". From Charles' medical report, it sounds like your Holiday break in touring can't come soon enough. --Rob |
