My rather tedious performance as your former husband, that was my debut
A little underplayed, a little dull, said all the papers

A little spoiled, maybe just a wee bit condescending
I had a way of saying things I wasn't quite intending
A flawed performance, to be sure -- the leading lady never really got it right

What about marrying once when we're young just to figure it out, just to get into practice
Make our mistakes, and then come back again with our ducks in a row -- we'd be much better at this
Get the divorce, get it out of the way, make a mess, break it off, make it bitter and spiteful
Then clean the slate, try again, you and me, make it good, make a life get it down get it right

So beginning with this moment
If we haven't really blown it
We don't have to be so lonely any longer
We don't have to let the past define us
We can leave it all behind us
And maybe what we've learned can will make us stronger
